Palestinian workers in the countryside near Yabad, west of Jenin, making
charcoal, most of it for sale to Israel. The smouldering piles extend for
several miles, with a high demand from Israelis for cheap Palestinian
charcoal for their barbecues. The charcoal industry provides work for
local Palestinian families but at high cost for some of them: there are no
health and safety regulations and lung cancer rates are reportedly high.
