A smouldering pile of rubbish in the countryside near Jayyous. Because Israel has made movement inside the occupied territories extremely difficult, municipalities have had difficulties disposing of their waste properly. There are rubbish mountains like this polluting the local environment all over the West Bank. In April 2005, it was revealed in the Hebrew media that Israel was exacerbating the problem by exporting its rubbish to the Palestinians. (November 2002)
