The villagers of Yanun, near Nablus in the West Bank, briefly made the headlines in late 2002. All 150 villagers had fled after a series of increasingly violent attacks by extremist settlers from nearby Itamar. The Israeli army, responsible for keeping order in the occupied territories, had consistently failed to take any action against the settlers. A few villagers, including those pictured here, returned after volunteers, internationals and Israeli Jews, stood guard. (November 2002)
