A
“humanitarian post” erected at Beit Iba to repair some of the damage done
to the army’s image early on in the second intifada. Stories of young
children passing out in the heat or of religious mothers being forced to
breastfeed in public proved embarrassing. The posts, which were supposed
to help mothers of young children, were a two-week wonder, according to
Machsom Watch. Once the stories petered out, the posts were abandoned. I
found this one empty apart from a sink covered in thick layer of quarry
dust.
