The 2,200 inhabitants of the coastal village of al-Zeeb, just north of Nahariya, were expelled on 14 May 1948. The buildings were destroyed apart from the imposing mosque complex and a large building nearby that was once home to the village head. Today, the area is a popular beach resort that goes by the name of Achziv. (July 2007)
