Demonstrators sit by the village’s pool, which more usually hosts
ultra-Orthodox Jews using it as a mikveh. The yellow signs being held
aloft are the ostensible purpose of the visit: Zochrot (Remembering) posts
signs, in Hebrew and Arabic, at destroyed villages to reveal a little of
the Palestinian history which has been officially erased. The signs are
usually torn down moments after they are erected. (February 2005) |
